Sonic Heritage is the first collection of the sounds of the world’s most famous sights.
The project presents the sounds of 270 Unesco World Heritage Sites and items of intangible heritage – all reimagined by artists from around the world to create a brand new way of experiencing these spaces.
Interactive sound map and player
The Sonic Heritage site has an interactive sound map that lets you explore the heritage sounds.
There’s also a sound player where you can filter by category, type of heritage listing or search for an artist, location or keyword.
The sound player shows the field recording first and the reimagined sound below.
Sonic Heritage Albums
There are also two albums collecting some of the highlights of both the compositions and the field recordings from the project. They are both available as free/pay-what-you-like releases.
My submission to the project
I reimagined the field recording of children playing in Campo San Polo. The recording is like a memory of pre-covid times and the piece reflects on all of the feelings we’ve experienced from 2020 – memories of the past, fear, anxiety, anticipation, hope, loss, despair and ultimately a cautious optimism for a better future.
I used a number of synths – FRMS, Synthmaster 3, Polygon 2, Polymax, Lion and Atoms as well as the field recording. These have been processed with a number of effects – SP2016 reverb, Tverb, H3000 factory, H949 Dual Harmonizer, Silo, Instant Delay, ShaperBox 3, Ultrachannel, Saturn 2, Pro-Q 4, Stage and Pro-L 2.
